My name is Oliver Chapman. I am a postgraduate Ph.D. researcher studying Quantum Computing at the Department of Chemistry at the University of Oxford and Keble College.
I have a love of travelling, technology, and finding interesting ways to combine the two. During the expedition, I’ll be coordinating the Technology and Artificial Intelligence aspects of the Guatemala Expedition, mostly focused on analysing the rich data acquired by the drones to create coloured 3D digital representations of the Mayan sites and use Machine Learning to maximise discovery from the datasets collected through the LiDAR and photogrammetry technologies.
I am a former member of the University of Bristol Expedition Society, and have completed expeditions to Madagascar and the Georgian Caucasus; the latter of which gratefully received RGS funding. Therefore, I am excited by the prospect of stepping foot in Mesoamerica.
